Whistling birds.
The wind in your hair.
The rustling of leaves on the trees.
Morning dew above the fields with a rising sun.
The sun shining on the lake of Mas Chaban.
Reed plumes at the water's edge, swaying to the rhythm of rippling water.
Colourful skies, reflected on the lake, after sunset.
A sparkling starry sky.
A full moon that illuminates the hilly landscape.
The crackling of the campfire, dancing flames.

When the peace has descended, you see and experience so much more…

l'Histoire du Lac is located on the eastern side of the Lac de Mas Chaban in Lésignac-Durand. This is a small commune (about 200 inhabitants) in the département of Charente. People here live mainly from agriculture and cattle breeding.

Lac de Mas Chaban is a reservoir created in 2000 to ensure the water supply to the Charente river. The water's edge is 300 metres away and is directly accessible via a footpath. Together with Lac de Lavaud, located 3.5 kilometres to the east, Lac de Mas Chaban forms 'Les Lacs de Haute Charente'.

Lac de Mas Chaban is a lake for nature lovers. The lake attracts hikers, mountain bikers, fishermen and water sports enthusiasts. Motorized boats are not allowed, which only leaves room for the peace and quiet of nature. A fishing license is required to fish, as is the case throughout France. If you like hiking, the tour du lac is recommended! Enjoy 14 kilometers of natural beauty; birds, plants, trees and views over the lake. A bird watching spot is located directly on the lake, a 15-minute walk away. l’Histoire du Lac is located in a protected nature reserve, which means there is a lot of untouched nature and special birds can be spotted due to its location (bird migration route).

Where nature plays the leading role at Lac de Mas Chaban, recreation is paramount at Lac de Lavaud. This lake was created in 1989, has a sandy beach, a nautical base (including rental of pedal boats, canoes, SUP boards and catamarans) and a small playground. In addition, various catering establishments offer a view of the lake. From l’Histoire du Lac you can walk along paths to Lac de Lavaud (9 km). There is also the possibility to walk or mountain bike around this lake (14 km).

The picturesque village of Massignac is a 5 minute drive away. Here you will find a bakery, small Épicerie, post office, chemist, restaurant and bar.

For larger shopping trips or fuel, visit a Super U in Chabanais (15 min) or Saint-Junien (30 min), a town with a larger commercial centre.

The cities of Angoulême and Limoges are a 45-minute drive away. Angoulême is known for its comic strip art. The International Comic Strip Festival takes place there every year. Both cities have a market hall that also houses restaurants.
